Last Man Standing picks: Premier League Matchweek 6

Champs FC ·

How Last Man Standing works: one team, one week, no repeats

Here are our Last Man Standing picks for Premier League Matchweek 6. It's the first round of Season 2 of our Global Pool, so everyone starts with all 20 teams to choose from. Picks lock at the first kick-off, Arsenal v Leeds on Saturday 10 October at 12:30 UK time (13:30 SAST).

Remember the rules before you pick. Your team has to win, because a draw knocks you out. And every team you use now is one you can't use later.

The round doesn't settle until Coventry v Newcastle finishes on Monday night, but your pick is locked from Saturday lunchtime.

The shortlist

Chelsea v Bournemouth. Bournemouth haven't won in five games (three draws, two defeats), and they've just lost Alex Scott, who hurt his thigh on England duty and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Chelsea score plenty (10 in five), but they concede plenty too (12). Cole Palmer is reported to be playing through pain, and Joao Pedro is aiming to be back from a knee problem for this one. A good chance of a win, with a bit of chaos thrown in.

Arsenal v Leeds. Arsenal won their first four, then lost 3-0 at Brighton before the break. They're at home, but Kai Havertz is a doubt after a muscle strain with Germany, and Martin Odegaard came back from Norway with a knock. The bigger worry is Leeds: unbeaten all season, with the joint-best defence in the league (three conceded in five). A 0-0 here isn't far-fetched, and a draw knocks you out.

Ipswich v Fulham. A bold one. Fulham haven't won yet and have lost three of five. Ipswich have won twice. It's a way to save the big clubs for later in the season, but it's not a safe week one pick.

The traps

Liverpool v Man City. City are the only team with a perfect record (five from five), and Liverpool are unbeaten, though three of their five have been draws. Both sides had scares over the break. Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are doubts for Liverpool, and Erling Haaland limped off for Norway, although his manager put that down to fatigue. Big games between good teams are where draws happen, so leave this one alone.

Man Utd v Spurs. Spurs are bottom and haven't won, so United look tempting. But United have won once in five themselves, and Patrick Dorgu came home injured from Denmark duty. Spurs' scares with Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke look minor. In Season 1, every player who picked Spurs went out. We wouldn't trust either side.

Save these for later

City are the obvious one. They're the strongest team in the league, so use them on a week with an easier fixture than Anfield. Brighton (third, with the best goal difference) will tempt people at Sunderland, who look set to be without Dan Ballard and have Brian Brobbey as a doubt. We'd still hold Brighton for a home game.

Our pick

Chelsea at home to Bournemouth. It's not the safest-looking fixture on paper, but Bournemouth are yet to win and are a key midfielder down. And it keeps Arsenal and City for later.

Whatever you go with, get your pick in early. In Matchweek 2 last season, 80 players missed the deadline and the auto-pick sent all of them out. You can change your pick as often as you like until the first kick-off, and the rules explain what happens if you miss it.
